What I teach
Physics and the mathematics it runs on. A sampling is included below.
If a course isn't listed, ask —
the boundary is roughly, "anything a student might encounter in high school,
need as a prerequisite for a STEM bachelor's degree, or encounter as a
physics undergraduate."
Advanced Placement
AP Physics C
Half 1 - Mechanics: kinematics, Newton's laws, work and energy,
momentum, rotation, oscillations, gravitation. Half 2 - Electricity &
Magnetism: electrostatics, conductors and capacitors, circuits,
magnetic fields, electromagnetic induction.
Advanced Placement
AP Physics 1
Algebra-based mechanics: kinematics, forces, work and energy,
momentum, torque and rotational motion, simple harmonic motion,
and fluids.
Advanced Placement
AP Calculus AB & BC
Limits and continuity, derivatives and their applications,
integration, differential equations. BC adds parametric and polar
functions, vector-valued functions, and infinite series.
Undergraduate
Calculus-based physics
The standard two-semester sequence: mechanics, then electricity and
magnetism, with waves, optics and thermodynamics as the course
includes them.
Undergraduate
Calculus II & III
Techniques of integration, sequences and series, vectors and vector
geometry, partial derivatives, multiple integrals, line and surface
integrals.
Undergraduate
Differential equations
First-order equations, second-order linear equations, systems,
Laplace transforms, and series solutions.
Upper level
Classical mechanics
Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formulations, central-force motion,
rigid body dynamics, coupled oscillators, non-inertial frames.
Upper level
Electromagnetism
Electrostatics, boundary-value problems, dielectrics, magnetostatics,
induction, Maxwell's equations, and electromagnetic waves.
